New HVAC Efficiency Standards for Retail Bank Branches

When you’re considering a new HVAC system for the retail bank branches in your portfolio, there are certain standards to consider. New HVAC systems are a big expense, so you need to make sure your new units make up for that in yearly operating and maintenance costs.

A High Integrated Energy Efficiency Ratio (IEER)

The higher the IEER, the more energy-efficient the HVAC system. IEER specifically refers to an HVAC system’s actual efficiency, not expected efficiency. IEER is calculated based on the energy efficiency ratio (EER), which is when an HVAC system operates at full capacity (cooling a 95-degree day). We’ll leave the nitty-gritty calculations to the experts, but when all is said and done, you should choose an HVAC system with an IEER between 9.9 and 14.8, depending on the sizes and locations of your facilities as well as the type of HVAC system.

Internet Connectivity Capabilities

Most contemporary HVAC systems can connect to the internet. This allows smart systems within your bank branches to work together. For example, a lighting system with IoT integration can communicate with your HVAC system via an internet connection, adjusting heating and cooling based on time of day, season, and even how many people are in a given bank branch at a time

These new standards will increase efficiency while decreasing your carbon footprint and energy costs. If you’ve decided on an HVAC system that’s right for you and are wondering how you can incorporate IoT technology, please contact SBT to set up an appointment.
